It is hard to believe that we are almost to the end of February. 2025 is flying by as it seems like we just turned over the New Year, and it is almost March. Last month this blog was about how God is on the move. It was amazing how many of you reached out and agreed: God is up to something special.
Since last month there have been two other things that I’ve seen which fall right under the umbrella of God on the move. Just shortly after publishing in January, I saw a Fox News interview with Christian artist Brandon Lake on TikTok. The host stated that in 2022, 39% of the country listened to Christian music. In 2024 it was up to 45%. God is on the move.
Plus on the last day of February, Gather 25 is taking place across the globe. This is a free event where Christians can come together virtually from around the world and pray, listen to ministers speak and others share their testimonies, and just worship. It is a 25-hour event that churches are opening their doors to broadcast. It is the biggest global church event of its kind in history. God is on the move!
Some of you are probably wondering if I’m going to spend February’s blog writing about the same thing. Well, not exactly. This has its ties to God on the move, but it’s about us being on the move. Throughout the centuries we as Christians have been charged with that word: “Go.”
Jesus said, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations”. St. Ignatius once said to “go forth, and set the world on fire.” William Booth, preacher and founder of the Salvation Army, said, “Go straight for souls, and go for the worst.” The charge to Christians has been, and always will be, to spread the message of Jesus across the world. In essence, it’s us being in coordination with God on the move.
Make no doubt, God is going to move with or without our help, but He wants to include us in His Kingdom building right here in 2025. It’s easy in today’s busy world to forget or brush off our part of the “go” scenario. We can find excuse after excuse. Too busy, too shy, people don’t want to hear that today, I don’t want to offend anyone, you do you and I’ll do me…we use all of these excuses, plus many more, to justify why we aren’t joining God in what He is doing all over the world.
Hey, I get it. God didn’t make us all to be missionaries. That is true, but going for God doesn’t just mean selling all your possessions and moving to a land people have never heard of. It means taking a step of faith and watching how the Lord uses you. Here are four ways that will help you start setting the world on fire.
Work on Your Relationship
Before anything else, you need to be working on your relationship with the Lord. This doesn’t mean it has to be perfect, because it never will be. Simply put, we’re sinners and He’s not! But, the God of the universe knows you by name and wants to share in your life. Actively seeking a relationship with the Lord is a must. It really comes down to the action of going after that personal relationship. Will you screw up? Sure, that’s part of it, but do you keep moving forward, keep pursuing? If so, God will use you.
Find Community
God did not intend for us to do Christianity alone. Jesus was always in community with others, and really we need to be as well. Some of you may need to get back to church. Some may need to find a small Bible study group to be part of, and some may choose to figure out a way to be part of a larger group like the UniteUS movement. Whatever you do, community in the Christian faith is vital. God designed it this way so we get support, love, and like-mindedness as we reach out in love to those around us. We work more efficiently for the Lord if the voices that we listen to the most are Christ followers.
Don’t Hide Your Light
Jesus is the light of the world. He extinguishes the darkness, which, let’s face it, we have plenty of today. What I see many Christians today do is hide that light that should be shining out of them. Too often we allow the world to almost snuff out our candle rather than using it to set the world on fire. This doesn’t mean that letting that light shine out of you equates to you preaching to every cashier and waitress you see. It means that the people of this world can see Christ’s light. It makes you different without saying a word. But if you need to say something about all your Jesus has done for you, you’re not afraid or ashamed. Basically it’s like the popular song right now “Praise.” A line in that song says, “my God is alive, how could I keep it inside?” That’s what it all comes down to: don’t keep it inside; don’t hide your light.
Love
And of course if you are letting God’s light shine through you, you will love, because God is love. This type of love does set the world on fire. It is a love that is full of zeal, a love that our world is longing for. How many people are walking around right now feeling like no one even sees them? God does, and His love could be shining through you to really comfort them. That is, if you let Him. God’s love overcomes all obstacles, it breaks down every barrier, it provides, it is safe, and it flows through you if you put your trust in Him. He will send you out in love to those around you (Go), but only if you let Him.
I hope these four things help you jump into the movement God has going on. You probably won’t hear about it in the media, but it’s happening and it is exciting. I’m going to try my best to be a part of it by trusting God and letting Him use me. I hope you’ll join me. Until next time…
